They’re not the same level of influence.
Doom was so revolutionary, it set the standard for fps games and brought them into the mainstream. Not to mention the technical side of things.
It also set the standard and id tech was so revolutionary that a lot of games use engines still based off of it.

Actually, Doom wasn’t niche at all. It was so popular that it was installed on more computers than Windows, and the shareware version definitely helped. If it was niche it wouldn’t have popularized the genre.

Wolfenstein was the first fps of if it’s type, doom revolutionized and popularized it, Duke 3d showed off a more real environment and had destructible aspects. Quake brought into 3d, also Half Life honestly did more than Goldeneye.
