It was always a cheap smut site.
Already submitted Apple Family and Royal Guard tags…
It’s not about the existence of smut, but about it’s quality.
They are not creative at all and just boil down to <fetish sex happens>.
And that’s why I want a way to weed out the crap fics.
Plus, mature + sex tag doesn’t always equate clop.
On unrelated news, it looks like the site is asking users to submit character
tags they’d like to see. Good to see initiative.
Don’t like the smut… hover over the settings button, and guess what will appear…

Seriously, it it that hard to figure out? Just flip that switch, and you won’t have to deal with any of that “smut” ever again.
To be honest, it feels like you ain’t happy unless you have SOMETHING to complain about.
Perhaps not exactly like db, as there’s way too many unnecessary tags.
Though I guess tagging is very subjective.

Well, let’s take the algorithms on db, for example. I can search for [Twilight Sparkle AND (Princess Luna NOT S1 Luna)] or search for images reaching certain criteria, like score.

I admit, that there’s been an upgrade (ie. the long awaited split of mature into separate gore and sex tags) but it’s still a bit limited. Let’s take the character tags - a lot of characters are still missing. And I know that editing the database for that is not an easy task (or is it) but characters are supposed to be the focus of fimfic… Then there’s stuff like the generalized Luna tag, instead of separate S1 and S2 tags (some people are very specific in their stories) and sure, that can be expressed in the description. But I want to see it by a glance.
Which leads me to the biggest issue. The internet these days is on the precipice of Web 2.0 and Web 3.0, where users control almost every aspect of their daily browsing sites. Is it bad from me to expect a way to customize the main page of fimfic? Let’s say, get rid of the pesky feature box and replace it with a custom tag set I follow? Or perhaps a quick listing of group updates?
I know that the team behind fimfic is working hard to bring us the best site they can (which is why I’m not really complaining at them) but the news announced a while ago, that fimfic will have a “parent” site for all fanfiction, makes me fear that individual issues may remain unsolved.
As for the ratio of smut to normal stories - take into account, that most of those 15 k stories might have ended up in the feature box where they lingered for a while. On the other side, let’s say the same amount of “normal” stories ended up in the feature box - that’s a lot less of stories from the general “normal” pool. And mind you, that you can only filter mature out of the main page.
I am curious as to how long it has been since you’ve been on FiMfic browsing for stories. You have three different content level ratings, twelve different character tags, one hundred and fifteen different character tags even. Also, you can select the status of the story as a filter, as well as word count, and even the stories stats can be used in ordering the results. So, you CAN weed out the things that you do not wish to see.

One reason: extensive tagging on db allows you to really control what you want. There’s nothing like that on fimfic, so you can’t weed out what you want.
And this is different than Derpibooru… how?
Because 1 story represents the hundreds of thousands there, amirite?
Pls go.
A more accurate whine would be about how the feature box is constantly flooded with 1-2k word joke fics.
