With the bet pinkie pie had made with death is if she makes him laugh she was to be sent to the land of the living when she tried every trick she knew along with any dance moves when she was to be sent to heaven until she slipped on a banana peel then lands face first in a blueberry pie when she made death laugh and is sent to the land of the living.

Seriously? If they was never exposed to a potent disease before, then of course many will die before a cure is found. Even till this day, we still have diseases that have no cure.  
Not everything can just be magic away, you know. Else Equestria wouldn’t have hospitals now would they?
