I’m years late, but as this is a picture of Steel Rain from PH, those are actually supposed to be small artillery cannons mounted on the armor. I don’t know why they have small magazines.

Actual grenade machineguns don’t need a long barrel and are surprisingly small. Also not magazine-fed.
