As time’s moved on, though, a vast majority of those OCs simply were left behind. Happens every day, after all; the OC Graveyard; they fulfil a single desire of the artist, and if the reaction to it is insufficient, they move on. Hell, the show’s a fad for many of us, not a lifestyle; I left the ’booru for seven months ‘cause I just couldn’t find anything to love in the show, so I left it. And the unfinished fics I have? At LEAST… at LEAST ten OCs remain in rough drafts, never to be seen outside my computer files.

All things considered, at least this franchise opens itself to OCs with creative purpo-eehhhhh, pride in a franchise just opens some sores to stick knives into by other franchises, accomplishing nothing in the end.

Granted I am more critical of OC characters than most, because I fear we are moving closer towards Sonic fandom levels of saturation. I see someone’s OC, and my first thought is “Okay, what justification does this character have for being here”, and more often than not they are just an extension of the artist/creator meant to live out thier fantasy or scenarios.

I dunno, when tha fandom first started gaining it’s popularity I wasn’t nearly this negative towards OCs. But as I see more and more created to be shipped with canon characters, with bad designs and cringey backstories I’ve appreciated their existence less and less.

I get’cha… I wouldn’t go so far as to call many other OCs a sea of mediocrity; beauty, taste, character, all can be considered subjective terms, and some OCs are made with a purpose in mind that goes beyond being able to represent the artist, themselves. And for those able to do it, hell, good on ‘em, just, you know… have good reasons and expect the journey not to last forever; it’s a fad, after all.

But here, the transition between being lewd and perverse to talking directly to the viewers doesn’t seem too out of place; they keep the character very grounded in their perversion, making it seem less like a break in character compared to any time a tumblr-mod uses their character to address the reader directly. It’s sort of hard to describe; it being 5 in the morning sure doesn’t help my ability to produce coherent think-words… ugh.

Probably because, unlike most OCs where they only exist to live out someone’s wish fulfillment wank fantasies, CBT is her own personallity beyond the Twi from the show. She has character, and is entertaining in her perverted/devious nature. It’s a breath of fresh air amidst a sea of mediocrity.
