If anything with the introduction of Flurry Heart, Celestia said there previously hasn’t been any ‘born Alicorns’ likely meaning they are/were ponies like Twilight Sparkle prior to her ascension.

I guess. Sometimes people confuse fanon with canon and start making up stuff that only makes sense to them to justify what’s in their heads while ignoring episodes from the show that contradict their brain jumbles. It gets pretty confusing at times to know when someone knows the difference between a fanfic idea that throws out canon to branch a story and something completely out of left field they think is canon, but it’s only in their heads.

The “lonely-soul” angle can be used in a number of ways to reflect just about the whole cast, the “redemption” angle is heavily prevalent in foe-yay as well, none of it really makes Luna unique.
 
I agree there are ways it could happen, Luna’s mysteriousness would be a draw in for Twilight’s analytical and scientific nature, but then where does that leave them when either the ‘mystery’ is solved, or Luna continues being mysterious after the relationship is formed? For Twilight that would likely only annoy her.  
And Luna being close to her sister would likely see their relationship and would either want a student of her own or to be close to Twilight too, but what happens when she finds she can’t be a replacement for Celestia, that she can’t exactly share what they have? Given her previous experience with things of that nature, it would likely only wind up hurting her.
 
In fanfic fashion they could find a way to be together but only by the margin of changing who they are as characters, but at that point when do they stop being themselves and become OCs?
 
I don’t mind shippy analysis, it all comes back to characters and how they are written, and I find that fascinating.
 
Also that is a really neat picture of Luna.

I know what you mean. In the show, we’ve seen Luna’s warmer side quite a lot, for all that she’s shown as a source of moral guidance whose default presentation is quite stern and formal. She’s shown as increasingly caring towards the CMC while playing a sort of corrective parent role in steering them away from trouble. By her own admission she understands and sees herself reflected in Glimglam because she also has done deeply harmful things that hurt a lot of ponies who looked up to her.
 
We know they work together effectively, though that all happened offscreen. But I think Twilight understands Luna, often better than Luna does herself. And now it gets speculative and maybe a bit project-y. I think Twi gets Luna because they share a core of sadness and loneliness that they’ve both had to overcome with only partial success to be who they are.
 
So why doesn’t Luna get Twilight like that? She can see into dreams and stuff! Well, we all know about Luna’s little problem with jealousy, and seeing Celestia’s new favourite student trotting around with what seemed like a closer relationship with her at first… you can see why we got all her insistence on extra study and testing before that cushy princess job opened up. And I can see her building herself a wall that they’re only beginning to dismantle now that the decision has been thoroughly proven right.
 
I think there could be something between them, but with a strong risk of it all ending up as tragedy rather than wonderful pink fluffy romance. And the getting there is going to require one hell of a meet cute.
 
Anyway, enough long pointless ship payload analysis that nobody’s going to agree with. Have a cute Luna being nice and remembering how to do happy.

Ah I always wondered about where the popularity for TwiLuna stemmed from, a concept of physical attraction? Because in the show these two have about as much chemistry together as Argon and Xenon.

Twilight isn’t quite sure whether this is creepy or not. Luna is technically a thousand years older, in a position of massive power, and she’s half made out of space and infinite starry majesty to boot. Hardly an equal relationship, it would seem. Very scary. But then again, she basically got demoted to a dorky teenage-yearling after The Incident, even if that was only for a few months. Ever since, she’s acted like a nervous young adult tying to get a sound footing in a world she barely knows any more, trying to patch her life together. It’s heartrending. You want to hug her, lead her back into the dance again. Let her shine once more.
 
The raw equine attraction is there too, should she trust to that? When Luna first did the horsehead nebula thing that Hearthswarming’s eve, all outlined with wisps of glowing magenta, glossy flanks and veiled eyes and all darkly smouldering, Twilight had to make excuses and go take a cold bath with a long boring book. She still remembers the strange dreams from that night.
