Background Pony #7703

So wait…Cheerilee was a unicorn originally, but the Core 7 series depicts her as an earth pony. But then the “Special Day” series shows flashbacks the early G3 material, while Cheerilee was a unicorn. But then G3.5 shows a filly Cheerilee, also as an earth pony. And Newborn Cuties implies she was always an earth pony. Are they separate beings with different backgrounds, but the same name somehow? Was their great-great-great-great grandfather a unicorn? Does that explain anything?
