According to Google, it means “the ability to live forever; eternal life.” So no, it doesn’t mean “unable to die,” people just believe it because of how much the term is misused.

According to a quick Google search, when the being in question can’t die of old age, but is susceptible to other means of death, then that’s called biological immortality.
But “normal” immortality is the complete inability to die from any means.
The latter is what I was referring to, and also what I assume Twilight was referring to when she said that Celestia and Luna (and perobably herself) are immortal in the previous comic.

No, immortal is not dying through natural means like old age or natural diseases, not invincible.
An immortal is indestructible. Elves and the like are foolish to call themselves immortal when they can be killed.
Immortal and invincible aren’t the same thing.
Guess Celestia wasn’t immortal after all.
So the other Alicorns probably aren’t either.
Nice to know.
