The fandom has cast Zecora (and by extension, all zebras) as "blacks" only because she has an Afro-Caribbean accent. She's a foreigner, however, not a descendent of slaves, so in her case it's xenophobia rather than racism.


 
Sweetie Belle dressing up as a sheep--a sentapient race that appear to be actual slaves in Equestria--is far closer to a "blackface" gag than anything involving Zecora. I seriously doubt whether the animators intended it as such, though, or even thought about it that way. I would chalk it up to "[Unfortunate Implications.":](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UnfortunateImplications)
