New headcanon time! Before the events of the first Equestria Girls movie unfolded, the Dazzlings weren’t really organized into the singing fish trio that they were of the second movie.  
Adagio had snuck back to Equestria after seeing Twilight Sparkle use the horse statue portal and was searching for advanced and powerful magic that she could bring back to her back up dancer besties.  
While lurking around ponyville and trying to cover up her fish smell, she stumbled upon a spell that resembled changeling magic and was able to take the form of a young mare and snuck into the Pear Family while the real Pear Butter was away at Pear College.  
She then had a romantic fling with some Apple stud and birthed three foals with him.  
After he was drafted into the Equestrian Royal National Guard and was deployed to some epic pony war and died a war hero fighting Pony Hitler, Adagio cried at his funeral and discovered that singing is magic and prepared to return to Human Land.  
She gave each of her children a parting gift before she left.  
Big Mac, a really huge horse necklace.  
Applejack, a epic cowboy hat.  
Applebloom, a magic ribbon that seals her youkai powers, So Nanoka~

I believe Hasbro is giving us a taste of our own medicine, by stealing our ideas and then making it their own.

New headcanon: Pumpkin Cake is the reincarnation of Pear Butter.

I’d like to think, upon seeing Pumpkin’s coloration for the first time, Mrs. Cake decided to use blue hair ties. (Although, from a design standpoint, it’s probably just the orange-blue color combination)

Here is a headcanon that will wreck you. Since Mrs. Cake and Pear Butter were besties back in the day, she dresses up Pumpkin Cake in memory of her long lost friend.

Mr Cake has the same colors though. (and in fact he looks more like Pumpkin than Pear does.)  
In the world of cartoon ponies its only natural someone shares colors… heck maybe Pear Butter introduced Cup Cake to her cousin or other relative, who ended up becoming her husband.

Pear Butter looks like Pumpkin Cake and was best friends with Cupcake: I can already smell the fanfictions.
