I don’t see this as Rainbow being a bitch at all. She wanted equality. It was a game, they were on opposing teams. Soarin was going easy on her not because she was inexperienced (he was the inexperienced one) but because she was his girlfriend.
Frankly, if I were Rainbow, I would have been insulted. Do you respect me so little that you can’t treat me as an equal?

Although I like this too I believe the animators intended Soarin to have insomnia. I mean, he is fairly close to Dash in age though and the mane 6 are still fairly young. It makes sense.
