So… the same things we’ve been seeing for 7 1/2 years?

If I were a betting man, I’d say that Twilight has an outburst with her friends, like she doesn’t think they’re taking the issue seriously and tries to save Equestria herself. She gets captured and then through song, Tempest convinces Twilight to see her way of thinking and she sort of joins them. Or at least doesn’t exactly oppose them as strongly. But Twilight’s friends come to save her, Storm King sends magic at them and Twilight changes her mind to save them. They apologize and team up to stop him, but things look bleak, Storm King turns on Tempest, then Twilight convinces her to believe in the magic of friendship and in the end they beat the Storm King saving Equestria and turning Tempest back to the side of good.

i think originally there was a planned implication that the staff is where Tirek was inspired to make his magic stealing spell. It was, and may technically still, belong to Scorpan, implying that he also came from tirek’s homeland here.  
thoguh i think it is less steal the core of magic and more he just charged it up with their energy.
