I’d say Discord and Spike would be a better comparison.
except she’s very much a seventh member. she’s shown more than any other “secondary characters” and has had more focused episodes then sunset and spike combined who are actle main characters.
actions speak louder than words.
Wait, I’M moving the goalposts? Now you’re gonna have to explain me how I did THAT, because when you brought the “moving the goalpost” thing the first time, I thought you meant that’s what Hasbro was somehow doing with the show’s writing to justify the shift in attention given to Starlight.
In your argument, you move the goalposts.
Moving the goalposts is a logical fallacy.
Logical fallacies undermine arguments.
Therefore, Your moving of the goalposts undermines your argument.
A simple syllogism with no formal fallacies that I can detect.
Edited
Then mind explaining to me how exactly it undermines my argument? ‘cause I’m failing to see it.
Yes it does. Even if a logical fallacy does not undermine one’s conclusion, it does undermine the arguments used to arrive at said conclusion.
Regardless of what it’s called, it’s doesn’t discredit what I said.
That is called moving the goalposts
This much, in a way, it’s quite true. Lots of great character have tons of what you’d call “Mary Sue Traits” (the one that always comes to mind is Dante from Devil May Cry), but when the writing makes them really likable and/or entertaining, those traits are swept under the rug by our very subconscious.
No other so called “recurring” characters are given the spotlight during season starters or finales like Starlight’s given. If anything, it’s dishonest of them to call her “not a protagonist” when she’s given more opportunity to shine against big antagonists than the ReMain 5 ever are.
This is a pretty sad excuse for trolling, we’ve got background pony, bad grammar, only mentions season six, puts words in my mouth since I never mentioned season six at all, let alone said that Starlight “appeared a lot in S6.”
Seriously, at least make a genuine effort, not everyone is going to be as bored as I am right now, most people wouldn’t even bother responding to this.
I think you do not know how many times Starlight has appeared in the show or even pay attention to that because if you did, you would know that she almost have no appearance. It is worst than what happens with Applejack.
When someone says that she has appeared a lot in S6 that is just hilarious. Do you know how many times she has appeared in S6? We had 16 episodes without one single moment of Starlight on screen and in other 2 episodes she only appears for like 30 seconds. Oh, yeah, S6 has 26 episodes so we have like 10 episodes with Starlight and people love to pretend she was the main character in all of these episodes.

>Implying said people really give a shit about mary-sues
To quote myself: “People wont care how bullshit a character is as long as you make them likable.”
First, this is pretty out of date. Second, this doesn’t say what you think it does, ‘recurring’ is pretty open to interpretation, especially since he doesn’t use recurring as a contrast to main.
Starlight might not be marketed like a main character, but the writers definitely treat her like one. Isn’t that one of the main complaints surrounding her, some people don’t want her to be a main character?
Starlight is not a “main” character, supporting at best.
Unless they introduce a new element of harmony but I doubt it.
If leaks are anything to go by, still the same status throughout season 8 and I don’t see why they’d bother making her a main character in season 9
series finaleLike in EG, official website (Legend of Everfree) features the mane 7.
While the main series is still/always the mane 6 even in MLP: The Movie.

Now don’t get me wrong, I find the Sunset is a Mary Sue argument just as ridiculous as you do, but that’s some crazy pro-Sunset/anti-Starlight bias you have going on there. I mean, by your logic, I could say Vinyl Scratch (who’s rarely seen even by background pony standards and has never uttered a single word in the show) is a better written character than Discord. Also, the fact that Starlight only came into existence three years after Sunset’s initial debut couldn’t possibly have any effect on those numbers, could it?
@starslayer159
(still love you, though ;))
I think it’s the real issue is how easy it happens.
It’s called a thought exercise, just because I’ll entertain a line of thinking, doesn’t mean I think it’s a particularly intelligent line of thought. It just means I want to see where the line of thinking leads.
Well, exactly the people I meant. Ignore those. Trust me, you’ll be better off.
