WELL FUCK MAN
Story:
“Mommy?” Diamond Core knocked on the door of her mother’s office. She could hear slight shuffling from inside and the trotting of hoofprints. Hastily, the white mare that was her mother swung the door opened, bags under her dark blue eyes. Her mane was terribly unbrushed and ruffled, and her mother’s usual blue eyeshadow wasn’t anywhere to be seen as well as her multiple fake eyelashes.
“Yes, Dia?” Rarity asked sternly. “Mommy’s working, dear.”
“Oh.” The red-ish pink mare lowered her chin. “I just wanted to make sure I could still go to the Mother’s Day Camping Trip tomorrow?”
Rarity chuckled. “Dia, the camping trip’s not tomorrow, it’s next month,”-she walked over towards the calendar on her wall, not glancing at it. “See I have it right here on my calendar. It says tomorrow. See? I-” Rarity gasped. “TOMORROW?!”
Dia’s shoulders tensed. Her blue, pale yellow braided mane feel from her neck to the side of her freckled face. Her mother had been busy with designing a lot more than usual. Dia should’ve known Rarity wouldn’t let her go camping.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, Dia!” Rarity shook her head frantically. “Don’t worry, darling, I’ll just make some arrangements!”
Dia smiled. “Really, Mommy?”
“Of course, Dia! Anything for my little mare!”
Dia grinned and skipped away into her big sister’s room in the wooden cottage the family of five lived in. “Mompire!” Dia shouted for Empire Apple. The 15 year old green mare glanced at her as she watered her apple tree sapling.
“Hungry already, are we?” She muffled, putting down her bright yellow waterer and walking over to the filly. Empire kissed her young sister’s forehead, softly smiling.
Dia giggled. “No! Those apple tarts were amazing, Mompire! You’re a super good cook! Maybe you should become a chef!”
“Thank you, Dia, but I already know who I’m supposed to be, sweetie.” Empire lashed her tail towards the potted plant on her closed window seal, momentarily revealing her cutie mark to Dia’s gaze. Empire’s cutie mark was of a golden castle, a green/red apple at it’s entrance.
“Aaaaaaaaaaa gardener?” Dia asked.
Empire chuckled. “No, Dia. I’m an apple, and so are you.”
“I’m an apple badazzaler!” Dia declared happily.
Empire nuzzled her. “And I’m an apple hybrider.”
“What’s Jasper? He doesn’t have an apple cutie mark! His is a gemstone like Mommy’s!”
“He’s a miner, Dia.” Empire explained. “He mines gemstones. That’s where you get your bazazzle equipment. Now, why’s it you’ve interrupted my studies, Dia? I told you I would be busy from 5 - 7:30 tonight.”
“I know, Mom, but I just wanted to tell you that Mommy said it’s okay if we go to the Mother’s Day camping trip tomorrow.” Dia smiled.
“She agreed to let me go…” Empire staggered on her hooves. “With… with you?”
Dia nodded.
“Dia, that’s-that’s great news!” Empire quickly embraced her sister in a tight hug. “Oh, we’ll have so much fun tomorrow! We’ll bake s’mores, tell scary stories, explore the woods! And you’ll get to hang with your little friends!” She smiled warmly. “You better go pack your things, Dia.”
The pink filly nodded, running across the hall to her room. The smile stayed on Empire’s face as she watched Dia pack her things. After a moment, she turned away to work on her apple studies.

Rarity walked out of the bathroom. The sun was up and she felt terrible. She had fallen asleep on her desk trying to find a new design for her new line of dresses, and had woken up to the birds morning songs. She just finished putting on her face, a satchel with her cutie mark on both sides placed her back. The camping trip only lasted one day, so she was sure she wouldn’t need much.
She walked into the kitchen to find her eldest daughter baking breakfast while her only son helped her youngest daughter with her homework.
“Dia, darling, are you packed?” Rarity asked from the kitchen entrance.
“Yeah, Mommy!” Her daughter smiled. “I can’t wait until after breakfast! Me and Empire are going to have so much fun camping! Spooky stories, exploring, bake s’mores, hang out with my little friends . . .”
“You… and Empire?” Rarity quietly repeated to herself. She glanced at the table, finding two satchels placed there, on with Empire Apple’s cutie mark, and one with Diamond Core’s; her cutie mark was an eaten green apple with 3 gems as the seeds.
“Right. You and Empire.” Rarity quickly took off her satchel and kicked it behind her.
“Breakfast’s ready,” announced the green mare, placing two plates of apple pancakes in between her siblings.
“What’s this hybrid?” Jasper asked.
“Ladyland,” Empire smiled proudly. “It’s from Lady Alice and Cortland.”
Jasper chuckled. “Ladyland sounds like a ship name.”
“Or a por-
… nevermind.” Empire winked at her red brother. He gave another chuckle.
“Try it!” She smiled.
Dia bit into the pancake immediately. “MMMMMM!” She shouted. “IT’S BETTER THAN YESTERDAY’S, AND YESTERDAY’S WAS THE ABSOLUTE BESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST!”
Jasper and Empire laughed while Rarity sat down to eat. Empire slid her mother a pancake and said, “Thanks for letting me go with Dia instead, Mom.”
“Of course,” Rarity nodded. “What type of mother would I be if I didn’t let my 15 year old daughter raise my 10 year old?”
Empire chuckled before turning back to make herself her own plate. Unknown to her, Rarity as staring at her daughter with jealousy.
