How about a little artwork for my own stuff, eh? Sure! Why not?

Here’s a little something from a story that I’m writing: Etherea and her parents in hats. And not just any hats; silly ones! Why? Because it’s tradition! Yes, my headcanon is that after the opening ceremonies for the Summer Sun Festival, everypony goes out to have fun, and outlandish hats are just the start. Maybe Celestia could tell us why this is so. Or maybe she’ll just smile enigmatically, and let the twinkle in her eye speak for itself. It’s probably more fun if we don’t know the nitty-gritty.

This came about because I had two characters bonding over family photos in one scene, and I needed a good way to lighten the mood. Ponies weren’t enough by themselves, and for some reason ponies in silly hats just struck me. So this is less a scene from the story, and more so one of Etherea’s saved photos.

This drawing happened because I found some big sheets of paper at work that my boss was just going to toss - like 14x11, or something. I couldn’t let that happen, and it made me want to try drawing larger. (I always draw so small…) The topic just worked, and I loved the idea of ponies just having fun to have fun. Shining’s certainly getting in the mood, and Etherea’s likely to join in soon. Cadance… Well, she’s used to garnering a lot of attention anyways. (Shining could stand to sing more in key though.)

Yes, that’s an actual guard in the near background, and not a pony in a hat. No, his job isn’t to keep everypony away from the royal family. He and his fellows are just there to prevent the royals from being swamped by eager fans.

No, those aren’t pony-esque things in the back right. They’re just all wearing matching headdresses. I mean, friends do that, right?
