In Crash Bandicoot: the Wrath of Cortex Aku-aku addressed Uka-uka as ‘brother’.
In Twinsanity, Aku-aku said, “The Aku-Uka Brothers, together again.”

This line confirms Uka and Aku are brothers
Unless you want the 100% ending (Which is the real ending for 2 & 3) then yeah they are useless
