That reminds me of a piece of personal headcanon I’ve developed. It goes something like this:
 
Because changeling grubs all hatch at once in massive clutches of eggs, they mark the day with a single “hatchday” celebration for the whole brood. These hatchday celebrations are very public affairs, open to the whole hive and overseen by the queen.
 
I can’t help but think that Chrysalis is preparing for an upcoming hatchday function and wants to look her best.

If Chrysalis instead debuted in Season 1.
