How backwater do you need to be to have never heard of the holiday Celestia’s been spreading word of for 1000 years? I mean, I get that she was crippled, but surely she wasn’t disowned for it… Honestly the more I think about it the less sense her backstory makes.
Well she was apparently raised in some backwater village. Could say the holiday never caught on there.
Even taking the books into account she rarely stuck in one place for too long and rarely interacted at all before she left Equestria altogether.
Wouldn’t be too surprised. Hobbits act like they live in 19th Century Britain, whereas everyone else seems stuck in the 14th Century. The sun never sets upon the Hobbit Empire :P

Seems unlikely, because she was a foal and it’s a candy giving holiday. I mean, imagine how young you’d have to be to not know Halloween existed.

But seriously, perhaps she’s just uninformed about the specific holiday? She already knew about Celestia (and perhaps Luna) controlling the sun and moon, but maybe wasn’t familiar with Nightmare Night even before her self-exile?
Well, it’s a little more likely with Equestrians, as they travel mostly by hoof or train, using airships only for pleasure trips apparently. By the looks of it, Eqestrian’s don’t travel outside of their home nation very often.
Yeah Tolkien kinda glossed over that fact in favor of more elves and orcs.
I didn’t know Hobbits were a Continent spanning superpower that controlled the sun and moon and regularly shat out world-ending threats. I was referring to both the Storm Empire and Equestria here:

To be fair the ponies seem like the Hobbits of the world.
At least they’re consistent about it, I guess.
That said, I love how Tempest so consistently underestimates her own race in the comics. Like, how many Ponies have nearly ended all life on the planet?
