A figurative phrase referring to the amount someone respects someone else. Basically it means to ‘doing things so someone likes me more but I get nothing real out of it’.

…I am fookin terrible at explaining things sometimes.

Both are a bit right here, though Starlight is a bit closer: Credit for a good deed, as in John earned a lot of brownie points for doing his boss’s report for him. The term originated with the points earned for various achievements by the youngest group of the Girl Scouts, called Brownies.
