Also, there’s enough of a gap there in the second panel for a hoop to squeeze in, if it tried hard enough. Just an observation.
If they’re using telekinesis, why throw with their hooves at all? Telekinesis would probably ruin a game like this.

In any case, she’s a unicorn. Why would she let something as stupid as a leg get in the way of her ring, when she’s perfectly capable of just guiding it on with telekinesis?
She had to get it past his front legs and keep it high enough without it being so high it grazed his stomach, lost momentum, and fell, plus when you’re trying to get a ring around something, a big target might give you less room to work with in terms of getting it inside. So unless it extends past the front of his body, Rarity’s still impressively dexterous, and I’d imagine Butterscotch will be thinking about that quite a bit in the near future, no matter how hard he tries not to.
Or maybe she just has a big target.
