I understand that there isn't many details to either explain what is going on or why things are the way they are, ultimately leading to open interpretation of what took place in thw comic. I have yet to put into art an explanation as to why things are the way they are. Such as an explanation as to how Tommy got here as well as reasons why the ponies were the way they are.
In the case of the fusions it is not that they are brain washed for that isn't the case at all. Apart from playing with dangerous fire like the fusion potion despite the effects being permanent fusion into one pony. Zecora slipped up andnas a result four mares are now one single pony, unique with her own thoughts and opinions albeit scewed by any one of her four component mares.
The "component" mares are by all means alive and independent of themselves. Only they do not exert direct control over the fusion ponies personality and mind themselves. Although in some extremely emotional cases some of the component ponies can temporarily exert enough influence to hack the fusion into their control balancing out.
That and it is just a comic. It's not an attempt at being cannon or honest to the reality of the characters behaviors and personalities from the show. So as OOC as this is, it is in the end it's own thing, me taking this random out of nowhere comics into a mainline story was never the proimary goal but now it has a universe of it's own. One that I can shape and change to my own desire if I want to.
