Notoriously Divine Tagger - Consistently uploads images above and beyond the minimum tag requirements. And/or additionally, bringing over the original description from the source if the image has one. Does NOT apply to the uploader adding several to a dozen tags after originally uploading with minimum to bare tagging.

The impression I got was that the hatching grounds were on a plateau or in a valley higher up than the area where Spike, Fluttershy and Smolder entered the Dragon Lands -- most of the scenes showing the lava bathing area show it on a sort of mountainous slope. Thus the lava lake would be within this raised area and beneath the nesting area, and it can thus flow out through the slopes of the rise it's in and out onto the surface.
