“Oh fuck me…girl, how did you let this happen?” Sapphire felt icky. Used. Just another notch in Blueblood’s figurative belt…but she was Sapphire motherFUCKIN Shores! It was her job to check the egos of pompous stallions as they made themselves entitled to her. She was a Queen who let her guard down, only to be dethroned by a smug little prince. How dare that stallion wine and dine her like he did any other mare? No fuckin way would he be permitted to get away with this. Sapphire would not be reduced to yet another gold-digging hussy living between Blueblood’s sheets and checkbook by nosy paparazzi. Normally, the tabloids could say whatever they wanted about her…but this was a matter of her power as a mare being taken away. Little fillies at home needed her to be more than just the Pony of Pop. She had to show them they had power too.
So Sapphire asked Blueblood on more dates disguised as friendly field trips. He gleefully responded, eager to spend more time with her for reasons he barely understood. They kept going on dates until it was very clear they would be more than friends-with-benefits. Sapphire eventually didn’t need to demand power from Blueblood…instead he gave it to her freely, and in turn, she didn’t ask too many questions about his true lifestyle outside of being a prince. They’re never married, but they do eventually have a daughter named Marshmallow Kiss.

◊◊Prince Blueblood is the sole heir to the Diamond dynasty; a mighty royal family whose roots trace back beyond the lifetimes of the Two Sisters. As a direct descendant of Princess Platinum, Blueblood boasts an immense influence over the highly traditional and high class society of Canterlot. Being a master of diplomacy lends to his power as well, despite his title as Prince being only the remnants of his heritage. However, Blueblood is no fop. He is an adventurer, surrounded by conspiracy theories and a general mistrust, and this is perhaps not unearned.
He is a member of a secret agency which protects Equestria’s greatest magical and technological secrets from foreign threats. Blueblood is essentially tasked with not only protecting such information, but also the peaceful visage that pervades Equestrian society. This can come at a great cost at times. Not all is so simple and well in the land of ponies, and even beyond. Despite this being an era of harmony - as the Sisters like to claim - there are those that wish to undo that peace and take the crown for themselves. Prince Blueblood’s life is a delicate dance of politics and calculated funding and espionage, and it has left him with many scars. It has left him cynical, fatigued and, at times, regrettably violent toward his prisoners. In his free time, Blueblood enjoys going on safaris and similar misadventures to soothe his soul.
After having his daughter, he decides to take it a little easier by focusing more on diplomacy, leaving most of the “dirty work” to agency officials. His family knows very little about what he’s done. Heck, ponies in general know very little about him, but as long as he keeps up his appearance, Blueblood is safe from overly prying eyes. And if nosy ponies do get too far, he’ll simply solve that in his own way too.
Notes:
-Princes in Equestria keep their rank for life, never descending or ascending in power even if their princess divorces them, or if they lose their positions of political or military power. Princehood can he hereditary, but a stallion can also marry into royalty.
-Blueblood is the first mixed race member of the Diamond lineage, being the child of a golden zebra stallion and a unicorn mare. For the longest time, he covered up his stripes with make-up or magic due to his identity as a Diamond constantly coming into question. Until he realized that in the broad scheme of things, the way he looked didn’t determine his position in the world. Sapphire thinks his stripes are sexy af, and that she’ll literally sock anyone who says otherwise. Blueblood appreciates the sentiment, but he reminds her that he’s a diplomat…so allowing his girlfriend assault his guests, no matter what they said, would most assuredly put him out of a job.
-Blueblood hardly knew his parents, and he’s not entirely sure where he was born. All he knows was that he was brought to Celestia as a toddler, to be raised by a willing Canterlot couple and have his princehod immediately recognized. He has done much research on his ancestry, and he does not like everything he has seen.
Some say she was born a star as her debut truly took place when she was but a toddler, and her mother inadvertently pushed her into the spotlight. From then on, fame swallowed her life, and she LOVED every moment of it. She loved the bright lights, the thrills, the attention and her adoring but highly deluded fans. Sapphire truly tried her best to convince her that fame has a cost, and that being the mare with the most stallions at her hooves was not as important as it sounded, but Marsha had definitely inherited her parents’ stubborness. Sapphire lost real connection with her daughter as soon as she became a teenager, and watched helplessly as Marsha fell into the crazy world of the Canterlot Elite.
After having her father sign a music contract with veteran agent Svengallop, she fell victim to the ravenous hoards of manipulative bigwigs, the paparazzi and her thousands of fans. Being a young girl in a cruel and largely selfish world definitely comes at a cost, no matter how fun and pretty everything is in the moment.
Notes:
-Sapphire Shores’ large family was definitely intimidating to Marshmallow when she finally met them at age ten. By then, the young mare was already well on her way to becoming a huge star, so meeting with her yokel family was pretty overwhelming and…different compared to the Canterlot lifestyle. They weren’t as outgoing as Sapphire neither, and were just a bit too calm when they met Marshmallow. As time would pass, Marshmallow would usually choose spending time with her father’s family. Blueblood would lavish her with gifts, vacations, adventures in the tropics and so much more, so naturally the prissy princess began to develop a more refined taste than hushpuppies and ambrosia.
-Sapphire would often enlist Rarity and Sweetie Belle to babysit her daughter. Marshmallow initially made friends with Sweetie’s adopted daughter Clarabelle, but the two quickly grew apart as they realized they were absolutely incompatible as friends. To this day they basically hate each other. Marshy also felt pretty ashamed of being associated with Applejack’s family through Rarity, except when it came to Granny Smith.
-Blueblood and Marshmallow have a serviceable relationship, but it’s mostly subsisted by material items
-Marshmallow seems like she has her shit together, but she’s a fiery ball of stress and emotional constipation. That is until a certain jazzy teenage hearthrob is contractually obligated to enter her life, and she finally feels real love that she is totally and utterly unprepared for, and oh god why does everything hurt so much.
Okay, I ended up liking this couple a lot. I also started to feel a little uneasy toward Blueblood’s misogyny. Don’t get me wrong, I think it suits him very well, but then I thought…maybe he’s done much worse than commit sexism. Maybe he’s done much worse than manipulate money. Maybe, just maybe, he’s done worse than fund black projects with dark money brought by the numerous non-profits and insurance companies he oversees. And maybe, I’ll go into further detail on this.
Anywho, I hope you like these ideas!
