Did you never watch "The Break Up Break Down"? The Cutie Mark Crusaders try to find out who Sweetie Belle's "secret admirer" could be, they have a list of colts who might have a crush on Sweetie Belle and Spike is not on the list, they didn't even ask him if he is the secret admirer. The CMC clearly don't see Spike in their age group. Spike could be the same age as the young six then the CMC.

That's the reason I don't like the ship, Sweetie Belle is use as a replacement Rarity.
