That, coupled with other things arguably makes Sweetie Belle one of the most underrated magic users,especially for her age, considering how little attention is drawn to ither prowess. Arguably is a plot point they could have done more with/drawn more attention to, her being rather talented (especially for her age), but I digress.
Soft magic rules also seem like it goes well with the moral of Marks and Recreation, where the point was a pony can have multiple talents, not necessarily related to what their mark is.

I guess a point I want to make is it's arguably an improvement, not being bound to that hard rule, in some ways. Nothing's wrong with hard rule-based stuff, but the show wasn't really consistent on the matter even from minute one.
