I think it’s possible that metaphor also applies to how you’re viewing the comic itself. No offense, I only bring it up because it’s kinda meta.

But how does a Twilight know what wings is?

I mentioned this in the DA comments, but this comic makes an interesting metaphor for how the show is created and how the fans view it.
 
Imagine that Twilight represents the fans of FiM, the welcome sign represents the show, and Berry Punch and Carrot Top represent the show runners. The fans see a certain detail in the show (let’s use Lyra and Bon Bon as an example), and based on how that detail appears (Lyra and Bon Bon appear next to each other a lot) the fans will assume that the showrunners intended for there to be a certain meaning behind it (Lyra and Bon Bon are friends). But the truth of the matter is that the showrunners didn’t really intend it that way, it just sorta happened (Lyra and Bon Bon only appeared together (at first) for the sake of color balance).

And then Princess Twilight relieved it was not done as a joke. She shrugged it off the very next second.
