Studio Gainax is rather infamous for doing finale episodes that are highly symbolic, mindfuckery, absurd plot twists, or just straight up don’t make any sense. OP is drawing a similarity between the ridiculousness of a typical Gainax Ending, and the “TWILIGHT IS SUDDENLY ALICORN” finale of S3.

If this was Gainax, Twilight would take her balloon, and merge it with an Equestrian airship to form a giant robot. Then, she’d take that robot and merge with Canterlot Castle, forming an even bigger robot. Finally she’d get Luna’s help to leap into orbit, merge with Luna’s own moon, which happens to be a giant robot, and merge with that robot to form yet an even bigger robot. Then, she’d see a giant cloud with Sombra’s face, stare it down, and activate:  
GIIIIGAAAA HORRRRRNNNN BREAAAAAAAKKKKEEEERRR!!!!!

No if this was Gainax Twilight would have pulled down the Sword of the Holy Titans from the Heavens and chopped off corrupted Celestia’s head, feasted on her insides then Twilight would have collapsed into a psychosomatic fit filled with regret, badly drawn crayon drawings and soft chanting.

Considering that they neither ran out of money nor wrote themselves into a corner that time, I’m certain that it was a troll move. What I was thinking near the end of the show:
 
(last 2 minutes) D-did Gainax just… wrap up a story really nicely? What a pleasant surprise!  
(last 30 seconds) Oh goddamnit!

i think they are saying that Gainax did a better twist than Hasbro… but unlike Hasbro… GAINAX STILL HASN’T ANNOUNCED A SECOND SEASON!!!

PSG’s studio is sketchy to begin with when it comes to sequels, so…

^ ^^ At the cost of ruining the joy for those who ‘get’ this on their own: he’s drawing a similarity between two shows that did a bit of mindfuck at the very end of the last episode of their run before going on an extended break.
 
But as @vonPeterhof said, PSG’s ending was very likely a genuine troll move and no actual second season was planned. With FiM we’ve got a follow-up guaranteed.
 
(Well, maybe they WERE even more similar if season 4 got cancelled. But even then, FiM’s ending would’ve been a troll move only to us, bronies.)

I’m thinking he’s saying the company that did KareKano and Evangelion are better at doing endings than Hasbro is.

Also, Hasbro is actually making another season. With Gainax, I’m pretty certain that that “TBC” at the end was BS. I’d be surprised if they actually started working on a sequel.
