That piece at the begining ( "...Until the show says otherwise..." ) is the key as to why things like "Star Wars" being bought by Disney does not mean they can "undo" the previous works of George Lucas / "Industrial Light & Magic".
 
(I am not comparing him with Lauren Faust), yet the concept is similar for "The Setting" created by StudioB/DHX.


 
It really now depends of Boulder Media... or to be more specific: of the writters working the scripts for the "MLP 2022" tv_show [actually, a NETFLIX "original anime"] to be produced in Dublin (Ireland). If "New Equestria" is just "Equestria IN -~~Space-~~ THE FUTURE... then it could be either part of the G4 "Expanded Universe" (like Equestria Girls);...  
. . . or an "spiritual succesor" in an Alternate Universe (HASBRO approved) "Official" Fanfic. Like the IDW comics.
