Description

“There used to be thousands of us. Now, they’re just ghosts.”

The story of the becoming of the infamous bringer of disorder and Chaos is that of a sad one. Everyday he regrets what he did and still pays the price even thousands of years later.

The Beginning

Like all other equi, discord, or whatever his name was before it was changed, was just like the other Cubs. He would run around and play, but horns, the occasional magic duel here and there. His mother adored him like the sun that shown above on their kingdom, and day by day, he was growing stronger and stronger.

Until one day, when a mysterious illness hit Discord so suddenly that the color in his fur began to drain. His once golden fur was ill-looking and pale, his darling golden eyes were hollow with shade as he, his mother, their queen, and other royal equi traveled long roads and rivers to the land where the ponies resided. At this time, Starswirl the Bearded was in control and looking after the land, seeing to it that all was peaceful, along with Clover the Clever. When they were suddenly being begged for a solution to Discord’s illness, they immediately agreed, thinking that whatever it was was nothing they couldn’t fix.

The equi aren’t very strong creatures. They are peaceful, yet timid creatures. Though they have it, their magic is not very powerful, and they lack basic knowledge of any medicine since they are normally healthy creatures. So to Starswirl, it was no surprise that they came asking for help. However, what Starswirl didn’t know about the species was that they’re DNA was very complicated. The helix strands were nothing but tied up knots and jumbles of random animal genes, all bounded together to form one single creature. When Starswirl and Clover the Clever began to look over Discord, they found something strange. He had a strange type of illness that they had never seen before, something so peculiar that they called in extra medics to help with the process of healing. It took days, to weeks, until they were met with the news that there was only one way to free the young being of his curse. To separate his DNA.

His mother was desperate, but the queen however, was skeptical, thinking it would change him in some way or form. However, the procedure was followed through with anyway, and through the hours that Discord was worked on, he grew wearier. Then, the horrific scene played out like a spell. As Discord’s DNA strands unwound, so did his body. What once was beautiful back hooves, turned one into the leg of a dragon, the other, an ugly horse hind leg. His body twisted and turned in odd and sickening ways as it stretched long, damp, brown fur began to sprout from his once silky gold. His short antlers twisted and shaped themselves, his wings, once filled with feathers, forged themselves into mismatched structures, one of a vulture, the other a bat. His front paws, morphed, one into a burly lion limb and the other into a cracked and hard eagle talon. His whole lady fell apart as if he were a ragdoll, once sewn together, now a heap of mess. Still, he wasn’t done. His limbs were stitched back together with the magic belonging to Starswirl, as he was desperate to save the young equus from death.

At last, it was complete; but as soon as the queen saw him, her eyes wide with shock, she screamed in horror. Discord was completely unrecognizable, the queen screeched at Starswirl and Clover, demanding that they fixed what they had done, but they informed her that this form was the only way he would live. Still filled with rage, the queen rejected the young boy, and seeing as the mother still had to follow the orders of the queen, reluctantly kept her mouth shut. See, the queen was, behind closed doors, a nasty ruler. She believed in peace and equality, and that meant keeping any impurities outside of their kingdom. Thus, the queen then dubbed the young equus Discord.

The Aftermath

Discord’s head was scrambled. He still shared one brain, one mind with the different creatures he was tied together with. Of course his mind was still his, but it was hard making decisions. One creature told him to do something, another told him to do the opposite. His thoughts were always taken over by the need to eat, or run, or burn, anything that he didn’t want to do. Starswirl, who Discord had been living with, began to notice his behavior all too late. In his teens, he snapped on the unicorn, blaming him for his appearance and his inability to remain under control. His behavior started to become chaotic, as if he were doing it on purpose.

Finally, Discord’s mind made itself up. He was filled with so much anger, malice, that he didn’t even bother taking it out on Starswirl. When he learned to accept the chaos instead of shun it, he finally unlocked a power he never knew he had. As if a heavy burden was lifted from his shoulders. There wasn’t enough time or preparation to stop him before he left for vengeance on the ones who wronged him.

Thus, vengeance was taken. In a fit of rage he destroyed his former kingdom, the entire city now a heap of chaos, the equus within it gone, and the queen dead. After this, Discord disappeared, but he down as a mythical creature that would come over young fillies and colts if they didn’t behave, the creature that haunted the dreams of little ones and tormented them even in their waking world. There were story books and theories, and eventually, he gained the name “The Bringer of Chaos.”

Celestia and Luna

Thousands of years later when Celestia and Luna have taken over, Discord makes an appearance, and still with anger and chaos holding him hostage, he seizes Equestria for his own. Starswirl, by now, had long since disappeared, so Discord decided to take his anger out on the next best choices. The sisters, caught by surprise, were defeated in the span of a short time, and Equestria was turned into a land of disarray.

Of course, Celestia and Luna fought back with The Elements of Harmony, and turned the creature to stone. Luna only knew the creature from the storybooks, The Bringer of Chaos. However, Celestia knew him from the stories that Starswirl told her in secret. She knew that his stone prison would not keep him forever, but she waited until the moment for when he would break free to plan what to do with him.

Reformation

After being released from his stone prison for the second time, Discord is reformed by the mane 6 (mainly Fluttershy), and though he no longer holds onto the anger that held him long ago, he still cannot rid of the magic that chaos brought. Everyday, he wishes he could take it all back, wish he would’ve stayed with Starswirl, and though he knows he would not be welcomed, he still wonders if there are still any other draconequi out there.

-Discord has absolutely no idea where the draconequi are now. As much as he would like to know, he thinks it would be best if he were still presumed dead.

-He forgave Starswirl as soon as he broke out of his stone imprisonment for the second time, but he would never tell anyone that.

-Human him wears a lot of earrings, and he rocks them

-He never meant to kill the queen, it was honestly an accident.

-Discord vowed to never kill, though the other villains would say different.

So here is our HC for Discord, my all time favorite villain in MLP. I didn’t want to make his backstory sad, but I just kept going along with the story as I was writing it, and it kinda ended up that way. Still, I hope this gives some insight into him in this universe!
