Ok i’m back with headcannon stuff this time its going to focus on different types of changelings starting with the queen subclass! Queen Chrysalis and Ocellus were drawn on stream for my twitch this time and it was a lot of fun explaining all of the headcannons I have for them in real time. Queen changelings are primarily denoted in changeling hives by their large mandibles, wings, horns, excess coloration, and gigantic size. Theyre basically the rulers of the hives and they also live the longest. Queen Chrysalis is a much larger and older queen than the newer Ocellus and though they come from the same hive changeling biology is by design extremely adaptable and thus they have some key differences beyond their preferred feeding source. Chrysalis has a different overall shape to her magic and horn as she feeds in a more parasitic way than Ocellus’s symbiotic way with other changelings, ponies, and creatures. Chrysalis also has a different elytral hair structure to resemble more ponies of old and is even taller than Celestia. Her corruption takes its biggest form as her unhealthy scarring along her body including pockmarks along her “hair” and legs as well as newly scarred skin along the rest of her body. She also has an unhealthy coloration but not as much as most other changelings as queens take the food priority when a hive is starving and thus she still retains some of her green and blue hues. On the other hand Ocellus is what you would call a second generation queen, shes about the size of a large pony as an adult and will probably grow to be even taller than Chrysalis as she has had a more healthy and long term sustainable food source. Ocellus has different features than her hives old queen due to changelings rapidly developing genetics and the more creatures they interact with and feed on makes their offspring more varied in appearance. Ocellus was born after the changeling hive reform and thus has no scarring or damage and she resembles more of a pony with her rounder stature and less curved horn. She also has a much more varied coloration than Chrysalis as she is both a healthy queen as well as taking notes from other more color prominent species around her. She also takes notes from dragon biology with her extra horns and bisected ears though the extra horns are a product of that as well as her birth under a hive with a psudoqueen. Changelings overall have segmented carapaces and some have elytral covers to conceal their wings while they dont fly if they have wings at all. Ocellus is basically Chrysalis’ structural successor in her changeling hive and will probably live a longer and healthier life as well. Chrysalis was originally more similar to Ocellus but decades of bingeing and fasting love made her body really only work in bursts of power. Ocellus can sustain longer forms of magic and even living and moving overall.
