Description
When I started re-writing the old Rocket to Insanity comic (later to become The Problem of Parthus), I pretty quickly realized that the titular character needed a redesign. The original Parthus design was fun, but clunky and time consuming to draw. My time was better put into making Parthus stand out as a compelling character, both in personality and visual design.
I gave him much sharper angles, avoiding smooth curves wherever possible, all the better to set him apart from the other characters in the story. The decision to add in permanent highlights and colorful shapes to accent his silhouette was to drive that design further, pushing him into a sharp graphic space, hopefully also making him fun to look at.
