In Red’s defense, he was specifically directing this at the people who were being assholes about not liking Princess Twilight (and we’ve had several of them comment both here and on the actual deviation page). At the same time, this was not the best way for him to do this, and ends up making HIM look like the asshole.

Equestria’s Tartarus isn’t Hell, silly, it’s a prison. You said it yourself. Hell is actually bad.

Actually, according to Greek mythology, the realm of Hades is the land of the dead, which would be the more accurate analogy for hell in our own vocabulary.
 
Tartarus is both a place and a deity in the underworld, and is situated below the realm of Hades. Tartarus the deity is the third primordial deity, following Chaos and Gaia, but preceding Eros.
 
In the Illiad, (700 BC) Zeus asserts that Tartarus is “as far below Hades as heaven is high above the Earth.” And it is where the Titans and other threats to the Gods are imprisoned, rather than mortals. (With a few notable exceptions in later mythology.)
