The Daleks live in the shell, and there are life support functions for it in there, but the dalek’s body itself isn’t augmented by the technology (unless you are one of Davros’ imperial Daleks which as Ace said, “are blobs with bits in them.“Basically they are genocidal hermit crabs
Eh, that’s more of a technicality than any real functional distinction. The organism and its casing are united throughout its lifetime, so for all intents and purposes, it is a single entity.
In any case, I’m not interested in quibbling over exact word definitions. Cyborg was the most appropriate one-word descriptor I could come up with to describe the type of being a Dalek is, and it seems I’m not alone. When people think of Daleks, it’s always encased Daleks - in the popular imagination, the two are inseparable.
EX-TER-MIN-ATE, EX-TER-MIN-ATE, EX-TER-MIN-ATE!!
But there natural bodies and the casing are not connected in any way, so not a cyborg as it’s a purely organic being inside a machine, a cyborg is made of both organic and artificial parts.
They spend their entire life in the casing - it essentially serves as their body. They can’t do much at all without it, as their natural body is just about useless by itself.
Not a cyborg, a soldier in a tank isn’t a cyborg so a dalek isn’t.
