The spirit of a hero doesn’t have to be the spirit of the same hero, and at least one of the Links was said to be someone new. The Wind Waker one, if I remember correctly, and possibly others.

Okay, I’ll admit that I like Midna/Zelda more than Midna/Link, but the Illia/Link thing was pretty implied.

Wind Waker Link is more dopey than Ocarina of Time’s. Skyward Sword is outwardly more emotive than a good chunk of the other Links. And all of the Links have a tendency to sleep a lot.
 
Same soul, but not the same characterization, subtle as it may be.

Implying Minish Cap, Spirit Tracks, either of the Four Swords incarnations, and A Link To The Past Zelda aren’t adorable cuties. Or Ocarina of Time’s Zelda isn’t a sweetheart. And Twilight Princess’s Zelda has a reason for being cold, her country was taken over.

Don’t feel so bad. The hero loves his land and will fight for it as many times as he needs. Besides, better than the set-up he had before the reincarnation. Shackled to a wall until the people needed his help.

Skyward Zelda could be the progenitor of the Hylian race since Hylians have magic infused blood like Sky Zelda had in her awakened state.
