because I assume that the spirit of Twilight is not trapped in the plush (any more then a persons soul is not trapped in a photo of them) and he is in love with the spirit of Twilight Sparkle and not the plush (as a physical object) or is it a bit of both?
I assume that it would make irl get togethers rather complicated when you have people reacting like that in your midst.
Then what if the show were to make a relationship permanent? The fandom would surely self combust anyway but what would happen with your feelings?
Depends: some get along, others can’t stand them. Jin is in the latter group, though he’s really mellowed out; one of my best friends is similar, suffering terrible anxiety when someone claims to love his mare (not too often, as she’s a background pony).
As for me, I have three friends who love Rarity; two of them have tulpas. Doesn’t make my love mean any less because they love her too.
So what would happen if two or more people had the same character as a love interest/waifu?

They are mostly with anime dolls, furry plushies and some ponies.
You are nowhere near as disturbing as others I have seen.
I believe there was a subreddit for anime waifu dolls.
I’d say there are more than 20 people who love ponies that I know of personally. It’s far more common than you would think.
