If he died in the main ponyverse, but is still alive in a different universe, I’m not sure how any one could ever be totally dead. It’s like you always have a backup. I’m just not sure if either of the Sombras were ever aware of each other.  
What I’m very curious about is, they are both called ‘King Sombra’, did they both have similar origins as King? But I can’t find anything that would mention if he was a king before attacking the Crystal Empire a thousand years ago. In fact I’m curious who ruled the crystal empire before he showed up.

From the comics, it seems like this is only a recent development.

But that doesn’t make sense…that would mean that the Good Sombra should be dead with the Bad Sombra…?
