You’d have to ask the people at the comic about the character design, but yes, I agree, this looks so much like Maleficent that I can’t imagine it being a coincidence. I think it must be a deliberate reference–but, again, I am only speculating.

Comparing Mirror Celestia to that spoiled brat Diamond Tiara is as stupid as comparing Joffrey to Sauron.

Mirror Celestia was a great villain, very powerful and effective with her schemes. Cruel, devious and greedy, pretty much the opposite of the Elements of Harmony. And despite what some said it was explained why she was like that. Just like when Luna was freed from Nightmare Moon, Mirror Luna become Evil, so on the abusement of the use of the Elements of Harmony caused Mirror Celestia (who was a bitch to begin with) sway even further to the dark side.

AHEM I have to disagree. Any comic/episode starring Cadance in a prominent role is good in my books.

Granted, it focused on Shining Armor, but hey, at least the writers of the comic gave him some love, attention, and character. (Unlike in the show, where he’s brushed aside ’cause of reasons.)

And the Nightmare Rarity arc was certainly paced the best and had the best story.

I just enjoyed the Chrysalis arc because of several reasons:

Mainly I loved seeing the Mane six come across so many unique flora and fauna. Things like that are always a plus.

That and we got to see more of Chrysalis and the changelings. That and Chrysalis and the CMC played off each other so well. They were hilarious and I honestly want to see more of those four working off each other.

Storywise, it’s the worst so far. Settingwise, it’s one of the best. It was a story never meant for a 4-issues arc, but a long-run series, and in the end it ended up really convoluted with lots of plotholes and unanswered questions.
But as it stands… I still believe Neigh Anything was way worse, at least I enjoyed the ride while it lasted in Reflections.
And for me the best arc is Nightmare Rarity.

I honestly didn’t see that coming, ‘cause for one: evil alt-selves usually get imprisoned at the end of the story.

And isn’t that world just a good/evil switcheroo. Meaning, that Celestia was born evil and that Luna was the only one corrupted to be that way? I mean, it almost seemed like the Elements brain washed that version of Celestia.

Unless this parallel world wasn’t exactly alike and Celestia really was corrupted….

I love this comic arc, but there were a ton of things they didn’t explain or think through.

I think it would have been better as a ‘story’ arc. You know, with Celestia telling others about her past with Starswirl, universe hopping. I mean, the universe hopping adventures are stories so awesome themselves. And eventually stumbling upon this one, Celestia falling in love, and ultimately leaving.

That’d be a good way to set things up, explain things, and really get the readers excited for a possible sequel where they ‘now’ go to that world.

As is, it’s alright but in no way the best adventure arc of the comics. I still hold that out to Chrysalis.

Not going to lie, I thought Evil Celestia was a great villain. She was scary, intimidating, everything you want in an alt-reality villain. She hit everything on the bullseye and it was enjoyable seeing her work. She was just so dastardly you couldn’t help but love to hate her.
