That’s true. If the changeling makes a go at the others Thunderlane’s going to have to try and stop him, leaving him open to the other changelings.

Not to mention that he’s out in the open with numbers stacked against him. Thunderlane obviously is a terrible tactician/fighter. If he moved it to the inner doorway, he could better the odds, seeing as it would make the changeling’s superior numbers not as powerful as before.

He’s already out of position. The changeling to his right already has a path to Rumble and the twins. He needs to retreat into the doorway in order to limit the angles of attack.
