For a ship like Iron Will and Fluttershy, which from what I can tell isn’t that popular, yes, there probably will be less safe stuff for it. Less, but I wouldn’t put money on none, especially when shippers can play the “comics aren’t 100% canon” card. Fluttermac, though, has the kind of following that wouldn’t give up just because “the show says he’s married”. Shining Armor and Cadance kind of exist to be married to each other. We don’t even see real Cadance until her wedding is underway. But they get safe-shipped all over the place.
By the way, it feels weird to be sort of arguing this, even though I hope you’re right.

Theres always at least some thread of hope for this to happen what drive the shipper, if for example Big Mac married Cheerilee then i doubt fluttermac would update something beside porn(which act basically as pony on pony model for porn and in many instances artist dont even ship it), it will just become a ship like AppleJack/Big Mac. Just for porn.
Yeah, you’re right, people are always perfectly happy to let go of their ship when it no longer makes sense.
