For some reason, probably optimization, there is a tracker for upvotes separate from the Image’s up vote counter attribute. That is updated on merge, and Mongoid::Voter’s interface. The tracker is incremented for each user vote merged in.
 
However, if a single user votes on both the original and deduped images, this will cause the counter to increment again, thereby throwing off the total.
 
There is a check here provided by the Mongoid::Voter module that I shall use, and I will push out a fix shortly.

I’m pretty sure it happens when the mods merge dupes with there originals, Comment don’t register some times either.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that a few times. Wonder if it’s a caching issue.
