Their dialogue implied that before the element of harmony brought Equestrian magic to the human world they barely had enough power to keep themselves fed. Before the magic was there, at most they would have been able to temporarily affect the behavior of someone important, like Angelina Jolie’s character in Beowulf.
I’m pretty sure it wasnt that long. Starswirl didnt throw them through the usual portal. He just used a spell. For all we know, he may have sent the sirens not only to the “human” world, but also FAR in the future. Knowingly or not.
The girls must have been a year in the “human” world at the very most. Immortal and able to hypnotise people for hundreds of years? They would have at least conquered a whole country by now and build a mighty empire. With all that power, they would have no reasons to give a fawk about the Equestrians.

I like to think maybe they were in some kinda limbo unaware of time until Sunset Shimmer came through the portal and unknowingly dragged them with her (emerging in a different place). So for them they’ve only been banished a few years but they don’t know how much time has passed in Equestria.
I hope the upcoming comic settles how long they’ve been banished.
