Actually, most of those are ones they are favorable too. Though, they usually favor popular series.  
Sonic’s “not popular” anymore, so he’s been the internet’s whipping boy as a result.

I got sick of their fanboyness after a few issues. They also don’t seem to review Nintendo games, as much as every other game. (Except the popular ones like Mario & Zelda.)

Man I remember when IGN tried to sue some youtubers and journalists for saying IGN lied about the games they reviewed and they even quoted some of their bull and IGN tried to sue them and said they never said any of that and all they had to do was play the commercial for titan fall where they said exactly what they were accused of.

“Game Informer” magazine is way worse, especially regarding the Sonic series. In their review for Sonic Riders 2, the critic starts off the review with the unbiased statement, “The only thing Sega can do with Sonic that would make me happy is to turn him into a nice blue fur coat.” (Wouldn’t that be kinda painful to wear though?)
 
Also, one time in their letters section a reader wrote in stating he was scared he was becoming a Sonic fan. Game Informer responded with a trying to be humorous top 10 list of how to be a “proper Sonic fan,” which influded such tidbits as you could only like the Genesis games, the only characters you can like are Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles, and other such retro-Sonic-fanboy remarks.  
It felt like the list was written by Richard Kuta, or Nicochi, or one of those famed goofs…
 
Now, I love the old Sonic games, but some of the retro-Sonic purists get on my nerves, especially, when they insist their opinions are the only “proper” ones, like Game Informer did with that list, and such…

IGN is biased as hell everyone has known this for awhile.

Yeah, in fact IGN gave many Sonic games I liked low scores, yet gave the one I hated most “Secret Rings” a high score. That’s one of the reasons I take reviews/critics with a grain of salt. I also wish people would judge the series on it’s own good/bad marits rather then always listen to trendy critics, or so-called “popular opinion.”
 
Also, as a Mario fan, I can confirm I never see any hate over “Super Mario 3D World” (the newest Mario action game for WiiU) for having several playable characters, (including a fifth unlockable one) at all. So I don’t get why some hold only Sonic to that standard, while prasiing games that do the same thing. (I also find it especially odd, considering most Sonic games in the past 8 years have only had Sonic playable, and hardly any other character.)
 
I also remember Nicochi (less said of him, the better, as he’s a totally insane retro-Sonic fanboy) complained about Sonic 4: Ep.1 looking to “3D,” yet he still liked “New Super Mario Wii,” and it had fully 3D characters, and rendered backgrounds despite being a sidescroller.  
(Also, it’s ironic, considering some of the graphics in the first Sonic games such as the checkerboard platforms, and “polygon trees” were inspired by early 3D animation at the time.)
 
I really don’t get these “double-standards” some fans/critics have with Sonic.
 
I also never understood the whole “every 3D/newer Sonic game is bad, every 2D game is good” bandwagon either frankly. While not every 3D game is good, I enjoyed many of them frankly, even some “hated” ones.  
In fact, not every 2D game was good either, some of the Game Gear games were quite mediocre, or hard to play, I felt. (Though, I loved “Tails Adventures.”)

I think if the Sonic-haters didn’t react so much to the Sonic spam, then maybe the anons/trolls wouldn’t spam bad/copy-and-paste Sonic pics so much in the first place. It’s the easiest way to upset people, and get angry reactions on Derpibooru. (Sonic literally gets more complaints then the porn on this site. Yes, Sonic is now officially more “taboo” then porn.) :P
 
I actually do remember one day some troll did the opposite and spammed a bunch of bad Mario pics before. They didn’t get as much hate as the Sonic pics, sense as you said due to Sonic’s controversial factor, he’s an easier target, while characters like Mario are more beloved, and have a better track-record.

Also, you gotta admit, lots of people upload poorly-done Sonic art relating to MLP JUST to get reactions and downvotes out of people. They upload mediocre stuff in waves. If it was a few scattered here and there, no one would really care as there is just as much (if not way more) below average Pony stuff uploaded here, and I’ve seen tons of not very good Pokémon fanart too! It’s just an easy target, unlike something like say, Megaman or Mario, who tend to get more positive reaction. (I personally dislike those franchises, but that’s just opinion)

Eh, I don’t agree. You can’t always trust reviewers, and everyone likes to jump on bandwagons. I also never cared for the Sonic fans who hated any game that came out after 1994 and always hated on anything that wasn’t Japanese styled, and didn’t like the comics and such…hell even being being IN that community for a couple years, or just browsing the forums (See Sonic Retro forums as a big example) I hated that mentality. I don’t understand why Sonic gets hated on for having more than 1 character playable, but other series that do that is fine. I never saw Mario games get hated on for having multiple playable characters (or maybe they do? idk, I don’t care about Mario) Or the people that hate any character that isn’t Sonic, Tails, Kunckles, Amy, Eggman, and Metal Sonic. Literally everyone else is Hitler, or ‘black sonic’ or ‘white sonic’ because “i don’t like thing, so I will incult thing forever” and being in multiple parts of the Sonic fandom for years (Sonic Retro, SSMB, Bumbleking Forums) I’ve seen the good and the bad, and I got real sick of seeing the same complaints over and over again from fans, critics, and haters alike. I’m still sick of it, and most people seem to just judge without actually knowing anything about the series other than “oh, X hates Y game so I hate Y game too. Also, boo, Shadow sucks” or whatever. personally I couldn’t give two shits about half the games, Classic AND Modern, and those games are generally the ones people see as GOOD or BETTER.
 
tl;dr Both Sonic Adventure games are my favorites and they’re 3d.

Exactly. I have a lot of negative things to say about the franchise in general. (Like how I don’t like Sonic much as a character, I don’t enjoy many ‘Sonic only’ games, I don’t care for the neo-classic modern references and merchandise, don’t like how Jazwares left/lost/idk the Sonic license for figures…etc)  
But this is true for other things I enjoy too, like MLP and Pokémon. (For example, I hate the ‘genwunner’ mentality in some Pokémon fans and it irritates me)

the moment Sonic hit 3d, all of it’s games dropped in popularity being honest here, every reviewer I see all say 2d sonic was the best, when it was all about speed in a plat former game. I myself had a lot of fun with Shadow the hedgehog game, as well as sonic heroes.
 
and often, yes, art of Sonic is drawn really badly, so it gets a lot of downvotes, they make sense.

the recent games of Sonic have generally been really really bad, Just like pokemon, another thing they are trying to milk till the end of time, much further then it ever should have been.
