It’s interesting to see just how many things have been carried over from G3.5 to G4. Just further proves that G3.5 had potential. A lot at that. She and Rainbow Dash are like two opposites, really.
It really did have potential, but with the trajectory we were seeing - fewer and fewer longer stories in favor of shorts that weren’t five whole minutes - you gotta wonder if the sort of payoff you’re thinking of was ever coming. Starsong’s “Meet the Ponies” short definitely covered some of this, though.
And of course it’s hard to read this (or watch that) without thinking of Filli Vanilli. You could even see Fluttershy growing into Starsong as written here: gaining a love of performing that can distract her from how shy she is; she steps down from the stage and it’s like “Aaah stop looking at me eeeek!”
Starsong’s my favorite of the Core 7 era’s new arrivals. She moved like a dance and was always hovering, her movements noticeably more graceful and a bit showier (without any diva-ish personality) than the others, like she was always moving to the Mozart in her head. It’s the kind of touch that, when seen in G4, is often cited as part of the details that make the show great. When you take note that Rainbow Dash almsot never landings because her energy and love of flying is there even when it’s not the focus, those smaller details that let us know that some things that make the characters tick are always there, not just when the spotlight’s on it… well, you look at Starsong and say “Ah, that’s where it started.”

Given she is the only pegasus in town, I think they could. Plus that’d make a decent reason behind her modesty.
