As for me personally, I’m somewhat non-partisan on the issue. As I said above, it’ll be how they do alicorn twilight (if they so choose to do that), rather than what they do, that will influence my opinion on the subject.
In other words: Sure, why not alicorn twilight?
This show and The Hub in general may be The Hub moving away from relying on toy sales, but that still is something they focus on.

Well, maybe Derpy, but that’s different, because she’s a background pony, and the complaining happened after the episode aired.
Yeah, that’s some people I’ve seen too. Jealousy that their favorite character gets so little characterization when all of a sudden this new princess comes in and actually does something interesting instead of just being a mentor who likes cake.
Ehhhh, I don’t know about that. Some guys I talk to still hold her to too flat and boring of a character to appreciate. Of course, these are also probably the closest one can get to a die-hard Celestia fan. So I probably have some sample bias going on.
But that would be simply throwing every development to the air.
People only hated Cadance before they actually saw her. They loved her after the Royal Wedding.
Maybe she just wants a friend. Maybe she figured Twilight might be useful for the upcoming NMM comeback tour.
I honestly think that Celestia will offer being an alicorn to her, she’ll take it for like a week, realize she won’t have the same kind of friendship, then beg to be changed back.
Less shits could be given. But I can’t afford more than a “meh”.
