Feature suggestions and discussion [READ THE FIRST POST]

Not a big fan of the new UI. Because it’s not something that needs to be changed.
 
I often check upload timestamps and now I have to keep actively searching for it, instead of just quickly glancing at the top of the page.
 
The little arrow also syggests can hide the description, but nothing happens when I click it. If the descriptions are going to be hidden by default (for example), then people will stop reading them and there’s no point in copying them from the source anymore. Preserving descriptions is something I’ve obsessed over for years.
 
And if there’s something that needs to be changed, it’s a preview for the image description.

There isn’t any space between nickname and upload date if the uploader doesn’t have any badges. Copypasting indicates there is a linebreak, but it is not displayed. Easiest visible on anonymously uploaded images.  
The single-line description box is displayed even when there isn’t a description - I think it should be hidden completely, along with “Description” title, if there isn’t one AND viewer doesn’t have ability to edit this description.

DNP is moderators’ concern (EDIT: though it does apply, now moderators have to scroll to check DNP unless they have different UI, which I think would be a bag of issues in itself).  
I want to know who uploaded image and when; one of the uses is knowing which tags I will likely need to add because specific uploaders have tendency to undertag specific things.  
And I think this information being in the header (*with the badge fix) does not occupy extra space (especially since for me personally it has to display two bars anyway, due to having too many buttons for my screen width) or interfere with visibility; while it being under the image does occupy extra space and reduce its own visibility.  
Both options have the image itself front and center regardless, which is where most people will be looking, unless their screens are positioned too high or too low. It’s not “more important than the image” because it’s not in focus, despite being above the image.  
(also I think the importance argument is bad because can be applied to the entire universal header)
 
P.P.S Description is where order of importance applies: people need to see image first, then, if they want, description. This is why moving description above the image would be nonsensical even before static content-changing metadata concern.  
This is an additional point I want to make: right now static (uploader, timestamp) is “mixed in” with dynamic (description) with a separator (advertisement box) between two dynamic zones of description and tags. I think advertisement box between image and description was better in this regard.

Okay, this one really did not need to be changed. For god’s sake. Stop. Unless you have some crazy reason involving the backend that led to this being “necessary” then please, change this back.
 
Or is this another case of “We’re not gonna tell anyone about the change until it’s live”? In which case, stop doing this. Please.

What changed?

Right now, description edit button is dynamic: it displays on the right side of description content, in the center or on the bottom, and moves around based on description’s width (and for bottom display, also presumably height).  
I think it should have static position instead, for ergonomics and avoiding the visual (description being narrower than the box it is in means the edit button is in the middle of the box) issues.

The same thing that was changed, that the people in the half dozen posts above mine are talking about; the uploader and image description changes.

I don’t think that information should’ve been moved down to the description area, that’s an inconvenient place for it

it’d be nice if the mods let us know when and what changes with updates instead of just springing it on us.

Admittedly in that case there is still problem of interactive/noninteractive flowbreak (because uploader’s name is interactive but timestamp and imagedata are not) but I think it’s less of an issue than current ones.
 
THIS IS TOTALLY AN EDIT OF THE POST

An issue is: This was done to make uploader information less prominent on images. But now, instead of the dark blue uploader bar blending in with the other blue bars at the top. Now it’s a dark blue bar in the middle of white space. Making it stand out even more.
 
On Light theme at least.

The description box now takes up the full width of the page.

It stands out even more, but usually requires scrolling down after page load, ergo, less prominent - even though it interferes with the points of displaying uploader name in the first place.

It was intentional because it being comment-width looks much worse.

Also I just noticed that the “download with tags in filename” and “download with short filename” icons are identical with only tooltips to differentiate them

Meh, I guess I’ll get used to it, then.

Please add a setting to put the uploader bar back at the top for those of us that preferred it being there. Thanks!

Now you’re changing the View and VS buttons, too? For fuck’s sake, STOP. There is no reason that I can see for those to be changed. At all.

They’re being discussed in the IRC directly with the person who changed that.  
The consensus by everyone other than them is “interfering with UX (ability to tell at a glance what those elements do) just to make two-tall header into one-tall is bad”.

I mean, uh, I would greatly appreciate it if you were to revert the UI to it’s earlier state. Thanks.

Or if you really don’t want to make everyone happy at least teach us how to use a user script in chrome….
