Maybe, but for one detail:
Garble got trapped under a rock during the Gauntlet. As in, could not move. Spike saved him and pulled him out from under the rock simply because Garble called him over. If Spike had not been around and gotten permission to leave, no other dragon would have been able to get it because no other dragon would have helped him out. Thus, the probability of Garble becoming Dragon Lord to me still seems rather slim.
 
You missed the whole Zecora butterfly effect thing. You do realise something different happens in every villain’s timeline right?

If Spike had not been around and gotten permission to leave, no other dragon would have been able to get it because no other dragon would have helped him out. Thus, the probability of Garble becoming Dragon Lord to me still seems rather slim.

Lack of Twilight would’ve made Garble never have a desire to get revenge on the ponies due to them never meeting in the first place. This would mean that even as Dragon Lord, Garble would still possibly perform such evils as destroying Phoenix eggs.

Unless, because of the lack of Twilight, the villains and such trying to take over, etc…Dragon Lord Torch was killed early, thus a new bid for Dragon Lord happened earlier, and Garble managed to come out on top (since without Spike, Ember wouldn’t have become it it seems).

Quoting something i’ve said about that on the episode discussion thread:
 
It could be a possiblity, but as far as i know, the alternate reality only shows how Equestria would be in the same day in which Starlight and Twilight met again, in an alternate timeline. Garble’s takeover only could happen months later, so it probably wasn’t that. unless “Gauntlet of Fire” is set before the Season 5 finale.
