Be honest, I don’t really goin’ around poking Derpy as much as I do anymore few months ago, cause this is sort of exhausting and… it’s kinda killed the fun of this game. Dx
 
For now, I just mainly rely on the balloon shop, tapping on whatever creatures the game spawned at my face, and win some the events (not the community event which last for a week or gaining the highest score in EQG, not worth it, since lots of crazy players competiting and I believe some of them are VIP exclusive player and it’s just unfair.)
 
Applejack and Princess Cadance will not be happy at you, haha. XD

It is kinda funny to see Celestia and Luna walking pass the changelings in Canterlot, and totally had no reaction at all. XD
 
 
One day… one day… I will learn the secret and the mystery behind Derpy Hooves of mastering the skill of hiding under a box for days and producing a gem out of nowhere…

I will still poke Derpy when I see her, but I won’t go out of my way to actively search for her every few minutes or so. If those vines in the Everfree spawned anymore I would certainly use them for gems a lot. As it stands though, mainly the gem shop from the party event and parasprites are my goto options. Mainly because they are both in the same area so I don’t have to hop areas at all.
 
I do really need to check Sweet Apple Acres and Canterlot more though… I bet the orchards are bare and all of Canterlot is now changelings with how I have been neglecting them. XD

But…. still not worth going back to replay the Amazon underground version, as I had spilled the beans long time ago, beans that would be really hard to clean up! nervous laugh

While I haven’t played on the Amazon free version too much… it does seem to be vastly easier to gain gems. Every level gives at least 4 I believe, many quests give them now, and certain things cost much less gems then the other version. The clothing shop for instance only uses 1 gem per 3 materials opposed to the 5 per 3 of the current version. If I played on it regularly I would probably be a lot farther in it, but as it is I’m just still barely started out on it.
 
There is also the added bonus of not having to deal with hackers, since (at least what I recall.. haven’t checked it in a bit) what were multiplayer events are now single player with a solo ability to complete them. The tree of harmony for instance is now a solo event. It would be much easier to progress on that version if I took the time to do it…
 
But, like you, I have years into my iPod version and don’t really wanna start from nothing. :P
 
 
As for seeking out Derpy, I don’t really view her as a significant source of gems… since the last 5 or so times I have poked her, I just got bits. But that gem shop from the party and parasprites seem to be the best options for me atm.

Oh yeah…. I kinda forget that there is an another “version” of Gameloft mlp game existed…
 
Hmmmm…. it’s seems that the Amazon underground Gameloft mlp doesn’t seem to help much to the players from what I see so far at the “advance stage”, as the gems still cost the same for unlocking most of the characters as the normal version one, but at least earning gem is not so that “troublesome” and much more easier?
 
I also believed that this version exist to help to gain little bit of attention and “interest” for people who wanted to progress the game faster from the beginning again without spending any real money, perhaps? Be honest, I don’t really know. shrug
 
Correct me if I’m wrong, cause I’m just making guesses here and I had gone way too “far” from starting over again to play the Amazon underground version. Can “link a device” from the settings in the mlp Gameloft game help transfer the savefile from an android phone to an iPod or iPhone? Does it actually work? I never tried it before, cause I’m too poor to have another phone here. Dx
 

 
 
As for the best map for me to hunt Derpy, (“hunt” seems to be a heavy word” XD) and of couse, based purely from my own experience, the possibility of spawning in Canterlot, Ponyville or Sweet Apple Acres is somewhat the same.  
For me, Ponyville will be the hardest map to find Derpy cause obviously, the map is freaking huge now, plus, she’s not hiding inside a box and she is just standing still around and “blend in”, which make her much more harder to be spotted. However…. somehow, it raises the chances for Derpy to “respawn” again (if you actually found her standing still and tapped her) for second time, or even for the third time after few seconds later when panning the screen away from her while zooming in and out the camera at the same time. Vice versa, Sweet Apple Acres will be the easiest, but Derpy seems to be much more naughtier and stubborn as she’s just refuse goin’ back hiding in the box. :-/
 
So… I choose Canterlot to become the hunting ground for Derpy, as I found the map size is just right between the three choices, and she seems to be more compliance to hide inside the box again after I tapped her, maximum of three times.  
Besides that, I intentionally designed the outskirts of the Canterlot map to be empty but green grass only, and voila, Derpy will be spawning at these “blank outskirts area” of the Canterlot map around 80% of chances, and higher chance of respawning when moving the camera away from her. Not to mention that her box is much more obvious to be spotted since nothing is blocking the view when there’s only grass around.

The rate of dropping a gem is still the same, and it’s terribly as low as 10%, I guess?  
But, increase the frequency of successfully finding Derpy = more chance of gaining a gem.  
Works for me. ;-)
 
This choice is purely based from my own personal opinions and years of experience, soooo…. I can’t guarantee it and take no responsibility if you decide to make your Canterlot become more uglier and this method doesn’t work (somehow?). XD

I do know there is a free no pay to progress version of the game out for android. You can get it from amazon.
 
I put it on my android phone but I very rarely play on it since my iPod version is dramatically farther. It is also a little slow on current updates… but it does update.
 
I usually tend to camp in Ponyville most of the time. Although finding Derpy can be a challenge if she shows up at all. I rarely visit Canterlot, but I probably should more often.

Yeah, my element shards will always max out after playing for a month or two, although I spend all of them on the shrines, parasprites, changelings and the fruit bats. Thanks to the shops and the totem shards at the everfree forest. Sometimes, I don’t get why people complaining of lack of element shards in the game, as mine always easily get max out…
 
Maybe some people does things differently, I guess. shrug
 
BUT….. LACK OF GEMS IS THE ABSOLUTELY MAIN CATASTROPHIC PROBLEM, AND IT ALWAYS WILL BE.
 
The last time I saw a Everfree vine, will be around last year, as I never seen them spawn at all for some reasons…
 
For me, the changelings (and of course, Derpy) in Canterlot are still my best buddies and my best way to gain the gems. XD  
And, the shrines are absolutely like the place which you dump your extra money into the fire pit… For me, it’s around 500 per shrine average for a single gem, and sometimes, there’s none… in the other word, I “burned” all the 999 element shards on a single shrine, only 0-2 gems sprout out, and that was just disappointing.

Yeah, I did face the technical issue problem of losing the savefile which majorly affected most of the android players last year, and unfortunately, I was one of them… the road was tough to go on, but I managed to survived. XD

The most reliable method of gaining gems I had experienced was with the Everfree vines you clear with shards. They can give multiple gems each depending on how many shards they need.
 
But the issue I have with them is that they almost never spawn anymore. Shortly after they added the area there were plenty of them around… now I get maybe 1 at a time very rarely.
 
Generally my methods of gaining gems are with parasprites though. I basically have all my shards maxed, so it is easy enough to clear them all. I don’t bother with the shrines though… even though you can get gems from them, you have to go through like 400 shards per shrine to have a chance at getting one.
 
I actually use my iPod Touch to play. It has never really had any of the common issues that seem to plague some other players, so I guess that’s good.

Hmmm…… I’m still don’t fully understand how the mechanism of Derpy’s spawn rate in an area works and the possibility of the gem drop from her(maybe less than 10%)… Totally have no idea, although I had playing this game for years now. Dx
 
And yeah, I’d think Derpy will only spawn for 3 times max in a row. I guess I got lucky after the time when I accidentally found out that “secret method of searching Derpy slightly faster over and over”, and somehow, it’s working in my device then.  
Just for your info, I was using an android Samsung A5 phone.
 
I do found out that changing the time and date in the phone don’t work at all!
 

 
You know what, heavily relying on Derpy to earn gem is pretty much waste of energy and time. Seriously! So, let’s just forget this unreliable method for now and just patiently waiting for the gems from various sources instead, like a good old loyalty Rainbow Dash. xD
 
||Be honest, I do experiencing a hard time gaining gems from Derpy due to the inconsistency of spawn rate and very low possibility of gem drop from her, and I roughly only gained like maximum 6-7 gems per hour from her if I checked and logged out the game for every freaking 10 minutes duration. Pretty much most of the day will be wasted and I have my real life stuff to do… ||
 
And thanks a lot for the tip and reminder that I can actually gain one more extra gem per day by swapping the “20 hours” to “6 hours” duration in that party gem balloon shop. ;-)

And another thing, I’d tend to check this game for average at least 5 times per day, cause… I have only like three or four “worthy” mobile games currently installed in my phone, and this gameloft mlp game is the one and only “farmville style genre” game among them.
 
Hence, most attention was focused towards this gameloft mlp game. ;-)
 
It’s kinda funny to think about it, cause lots of people hated this gameloft mlp game due to obvious reasons, and I’m still think it’s “worthy” to be play IMO. XD  
I would had this dumb money grubbing game uninstalled long long time ago, if not for the ponies.
 
The love from myself towards the mlp universe had never changed throughout the years. ;-) And yet, it’s getting more and more every years because of this awesome fandom, which filled with awesome people like you guys. /)

Derpy don’t show up a lot of the time for me really. But I believe on rare occasions she will ‘spawn’ 3-4 different times in a single area after poking her. I’m not sure how effective that would be at gaining gems though… since I only rarely get gems after poking her. I tend to only check the game 2-3 times a day at most though. And even with that large of a time gap, Derpy still won’t spawn sometimes.
 
I have the party gem shop set to the 6 hour interval. If you fill out the shop you get 1 gem per 6 hours or 2 per 20 hours. That way I can usually get at least 2 per day or 3 if I pay enough attention.

Well, I believe I had played this game for more than three years then, since I had seen the snow falling (the entire maps turn “white”) for at least three times. Dx That’s should have explain it….
 
And another tips, try to find Derpy in a box for at least twice everytime you open the game, and make it into a habit (or find Derpy standing still around Ponyville, but not recommended since the map is so darn big now). Dx
 
I’d find this is still the best way to earn gems faster than any other method IMO. After that, go out from the game and “task kill” it, and come back after more than 7 minutes, then look around the maps and find Derpy again.  
-> For the Canterlot map, I’d used the “Canterlot Theater” as the timer for the 7 minutes interval between going out from the game and coming back again, so that each time I logged into this game, the “Canterlot Theater” is ready to be collected, and Derpy would be hiding around the map most of the time.
 
 
However, I find it if I go out from the game and going back again within less than 7 minutes, I realized that Derpy wouldn’t show up at all and decided to take a break in the muffin shop, lol.
 
||I don’t guaranteed this will work though, at least this method works for me for years. ||
 
Yeah, I also managed to get that gem giving shop from the party games too before it was too late. xD  
And……. I now have a new habit to intentionally setting my countdown timer for every 20 hours as my phone alarm (I believe you know what I mean).

I really don’t see how people can legitly get that many gems and bits without cheating in some way….
 
I have played the game for 2 years or so and have only completed the main story line of Ponyville and beat Chryssi in Canterlot. Sweet Apple Acres is barely anywhere yet for me though. I’m currently sitting at like 8 gems and 7million ish bits. I did manage to get that gem giving shop from the party games thing though before they made it gems to open the chests.

I already unlocked most of the costumes in this game anyway, so… the costume pieces obtained were kinda worthless to me for now.
 
I did straight away unlocked the “power ponies costumes” set first when Gameloft introduced it into the game, since they gave the “best benefits” compared to the other costumes, and lots of gems were sacrifice… Dx
 
It’s kinda waste and sad to see people really spending unnecessary gems “to dress the pony faster” though.

If I had a kid, I wouldn’t get this game for them. it teaches that gambling is great and saving up your money (gems) only allows for small rewards :)
 
It also shows how perseverance can get you lots of other money, which is worthless (bits)

I didn’t spend a single dime in this money grubbing game at all. ;-) “VIP 0” is good enough to prove it.
 
Security in this game is pretty damn tight, so… I don’t want to risk myself getting banned for hacking…. even the other players or your friends in this game can report you for hacks nowadays, seriously.

What I mean is it’d be nice for hasbro to hire someone to make an official game like that. Put some effort it. Not asking for ultra violence here, but a game with a little conflict and action in it is great.

I’m not sure about an official game… but there was a good fanmade tower defense game made by Futzi01 a while back that someone converted into an app for iPod, iPhone, and iPad. I was gonna link it in the iTunes store for you to see… but apparently it no longer exists there. :(

I would love that as well, but since i read somewhere time ago (i don’t remember) that mobile games are more profitable than console games the probability of a real MLP game on a console is very low, i’m afraid.
