Actually my intent when I made that comment was to bitch about how anything the show’s crew does for the fans is now called pandering when it used to be well appreciated.
Hell, Faust wanted Trixie to come back all Nightmare Mode.
Can you even imagine how those “pandering!” twats would’ve reacted if they’d done that? Or the sudden aneurysms reported all throughout the fandom on them learning it was Fausts’ plan…

I remember that… It was kinda ironic for people to say that, because according to the writer of that episode, the “Magic Duel” script was submitted back in January 2011, (it was originally planned to be a Season 2 episode) back when Season 1 was still airing, before the brony fandom barely started to take off, and before Trixie became very popular in the fanbase. So it was kinda ironic for people to try to demonize that episode.

Funny that “pandering” was never an issue before the Derpy Drama. Back then, shoutouts were called “Easter Eggs” and were loved and appreciated.

We had loads of it back when she was revealed for S3 and after MD. Hell, some people still consider her appearance then to be pandering. I can’t wait for the deluge of “fucking writers pandering to Seth” and “thanks for ruining it, bronies” that we’ll get if she so much as has a Mayor Mare style cameo.
