True. But I don’t think that not contradicting means that there is an effort to unify the canon.

I think that the problem is that the franchise is seen as the advertisement instead of as the product. Particularly the cartoon.

In this context, unifying efforts and trying to direct the creative team with a single vision would be part of ‘caring’.
To me, it sounds like all media don’t go through a single storyteller for approval. I don’t think it’s a matter of anyone nor caring; rather, I think it’s a case of too many cooks.
IDW, DHX, and the chapter books don’t approve stories; that honor goes to someone or some people at Hasbro. I do genuinely wonder if the same people approve the various mediums. If they are different people, I wonder if they work in the same department/talk to each other.
That’s how franchises work when your main focus is the money flowing from our pockets to their bank accounts. Though, you have to admit, we get quality for it. Like 3 different producers of similar product. All of them feature the same pattern, with variations and hues, but none of things fit quit with one another.

But “The Crystalling” doesn’t contradict The Journal of the Two Sisters; it just means that Celestia and Luna were born either outside Equestria or before Starswirl & co. founded it.
