The part in FG was a competition. Everyone who was in the team (which consisted of the most popular students) had to participate in it, whether they had interest in it or not.
I think it is more likely that either the characters developed an interest because of the games or the animators did not want to make new models, so they simply reused to ones from FG.
Either way, that member compilation looks still odd…especially when you compare it to the other science club.

Well, the main focus are still the girls, so there will be barely any time for him (or Timber/others).

There’s a real frienship between them that’s always seen in the background. I would love it if we could get an episode that puts focus on it.
And they are both in the baking club as well. :3

Nonsense. Derpy and Flash have been science partners since Friendship Games at least.
In fact 3/4 of the club look out of place to me…
Flash, Derpy and Rarity are in it, but Sunset, Microchips and Wiz Kid (or any other nerd characters) are not? Are you kidding me?
But well…I guess that happens when they just select some random characters for a fast picture/animation. ._.

That seemed like just a bunch of things everyone had to participate for the competitions, whether they were your specialty or not. Derpy bonked on chemestry then, and Flash and Bon Bon bonked on bakery. Funny we see these two in precisely the clubs they did poorly on back then, so maybe they’re trying to compensate.
